Anxiety is what we feel when we are worried about something about to happen, or may happen in the future.
Some symptoms may include feeling tense, afraid, or even physically trembling. Everyone will experience varying degrees of anxiety at one time or another. Maybe if you’re moving house, or starting a new job, or sitting an important exam? It’s a fear of the unknown.
How we let those worries impact on us could determine how well we perform in an important meeting, being around new people in a social environment, or just having the capacity to make it out of the front door in the morning.
At ABS Life we will work with you to help you manage your anxiety. No matter what area of your life it is impacting upon, through deep discussion and coaching we can give you the tools to empower you to manage your anxiety and move forwards in achieving your goals.
In the meantime here are some simple ‘Anxiety Busting’ tips to get you started on your path to the freedom you want from your anxiety.
- Get more sleep.
Lack of sleep is one of the major culprits for high levels of anxiety. By not getting an adequate amount of sleep, 7-9 hours a night, you leave yourself open to amplifying the brain’s anticipatory reactions, (fight, flight, or freeze) thus keeping you on edge unable to clearly process all the information coming in.
- Monitor your diet?
Caffeine, sugar and processed foods are major contributors to high levels of anxiety. Removing them from your diet can be a great start to reducing your anxiety.
Caffeine – by ingesting too much could trigger panic or anxiety attacks.
Sugar – acts as an adrenal stimulant (adrenaline), and can have the same effect as caffeine heightening the fight, flight, or freeze receptors in the brain.
- Exercise, exercise, exercise.
This is nature’s anxiety combatting remedy. Aside from releasing endorphins (‘feel good’ hormones) and helping you sleep soundly at night, research has found that people who exercise regularly and vigorously were up to 25% less likely to develop an anxiety disorder within 5 years. Aim for three, 30 minute workouts per week with a power walk on your days off.
